India ranks No.114 globally in terms of average internet speed: Study 03 May, 2010



According to Akamai Technologies’ latest State of the Internet report, India ranks No.114 globally in terms of average internet connection speed. The report reveals that the country had an average internet connection speed of 849 Kbps (kilo bits per second) in the fourth quarter ended March 2010. In the previous quarter, India had an average internet connection speed of 897 Kbps and occupied 97th position globally in terms of average internet connection speed.


Globally, the average connection speed in the March 2010 ended quarter was 1.7 Mbps (mega bits per second). South Korea maintained the highest average connection speed at 11.7 Mbps. Haryana topped the list of Indian states, with an average speed of 1,103 kbps, followed by Kerala with an average speed of 1,065 Kbps. During the quarter, Delhi had an average internet speed of 836 Kbps.


The report also states that India ranked No.20 globally in terms of number of unique IP addresses in the fourth quarter ended March 2010. The country had over 3 million IPs. Delhi and Maharashtra continued to top the list of Indian states with over 1 million unique IPs each. An IP (internet protocol) address is a unique 32-bit number, which identifies a computer in an IP network.

Go to Start-> Run-> and type gpedit.msc

Expand the Administrative Templates branch
Expand the Network tab
Highlight QoS Packet Scheduler
Click on Limit Reservable Bandwidth and check the ‘enabled’ box
Then Change the Bandwidth limit % to 0 %

This will speed up your connection by 20%
